Cumbria Constabulary

Read all the information we hold on each police force in England and Wales. This includes details about our investigations, news releases and anonymised summaries and recommendations. You can filter the information by date, type or area of interest.

We also publish performance data for each force. This sets out how they handle and resolve complaints.

Complaints system performance data

Each quarter, we collect data from forces about how they handle complaints. We use this to produce information bulletins. These set out performance against a number of measures and compare each force’s data with their most similar force average and the overall results for all forces.

Police forces can supply commentary on their performance bulletins. This might explain why their figures differ from their most similar force average, and what they are doing to improve the way they handle complaints. Where forces provide this commentary, we publish it with the corresponding bulletin.

What the bulletins report on

Our quarterly bulletins provide the following data for each force:

• The number of complaint cases and allegations recorded

• The nature of the allegations recorded

• Percentage of complaint cases recorded within ten working days

• Number of allegations recorded per 1,000 people employed by the force

• Methods used to deal with complaints/allegations

• Average time the force takes to finalise complaint cases

• Average number of days to finalise allegations by local resolution

• Average number of days to finalise allegations by local investigation

• Appeals made to the force (received, completed and upheld)

• Average number of days the force takes to complete appeals

• Appeals to the IOPC about this force (received, completed and upheld)

• Average number of days we take to complete appeals about this force
